“Did you need a father growing up?”
WHERE THIS BEGAN
I needed someone to answer all my questions about how the world worked.
I remember my single mother of four asking me that question when I was a teenager. My answer carried everything I was trying to understand: school, sports, college, work, marriage, fatherhood, relationships, community, history, politics, religion, and friendship.
I did not inherit a roadmap for those things. I had to figure them out through experience, mistakes, and movement. Building a village matters because I want our children to inherit what I did not.

America is our home. This is where our roots will remain.
As a first-generation American, I have sometimes felt caught between worlds - not fully belonging here, while also being seen as different by the people and culture I came from.
After years of moving between states and searching for a place to call home, building one represents belonging, permanence, and an answer our children will not have to search for. This is the country I claim as home. This is the land where I will be buried.
